Pi Kappa Omega is living the legacy of Alpha Kappa Alpha and carrying on her 103 years of Service to all Mankind throughout the Harlem community. Pi Kappa Omega will celebrate 25 years of service in June 2011. We will celebrate the individuals who captured the vision of service and the community organizations who thought us worthy partners. It is our goal that the Pi Kappa Omega Chapter will build on the first 25 years and continue to be an influential and visible factor in underserved neighborhoods throughout New York City with a focus on the village of Harlem.
Chartered in June of 1986, Pi Kappa Omega has the distinct honor of carrying out legacy service programs and fundraisers for more than 20 years, including: the Greater Harlem Nursing Home Program, Annual After Work Mixer Scholarship Fundraiser and the Year of Raffles Program Fundraiser. Over the years we have hosted numerous highly impactful events including an Economic Empowerment Seminar, Trailblazer Award Black Tie Fundraiser, and a nine-month mentoring program in partnership with the Harlem Police Athletic League; this resulted in the first debutante cotillion in Harlem in 50 years. In 2010, Pi Kappa Omega, in the spirit of good health, partnered with the Black Cardiologists of New York to sponsor the "Saving Hearts of Harlem" symposium to educate members of the community on the risks and causes of heart disease.
We are a sincere, sisterly and tight-knit group and our membership represents a diverse mix of professional, educational, and geographic backgrounds. It is this diversity that makes our chapter rich in history, experience and enthusiasm. As we prepare to celebrate 25 years of service, we unveiled the theme that speaks to our legacy: "Striving to Thrive: 25 Years of Service, Impact for a Lifetime".
